1. Make A Small Difference - Myanmar Primary School Education

I visited Myanmar from Feb 17 to 22, 2011 to check out the safety and other aspects of international school tourism for prospective travellers who would like to know more about the education system in Myanmar.

The Singapore Tourism Board has licensed my company, Design Travel Pte Ltd in 2010. It focuses on Myanmar travel and tours.

I re-visited the beautiful and clean Lake Inle for the 2nd time since my first visit in 2008 and the Ayeyarwaddy Lower Delta Region for the first time. The following report is my visit to see 5 Primary Schools needing financial help to upgrade their facilities.

The following is the report of my visit to 5 schools in the Ayeyawaddy Divsion. I had also visited 3 schools in the Inle Lake region. Pictures will be uploaded later.

CONCLUSION

From this tour of 5 primary schools in the lower delta region and 3 schools in the Lake Inle area, I note that that the building of some schools and in the kindergartens in villages are done by NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and private individuals like the Japanese man.

The government will provide around two teachers in the smaller primary schools. The building and maintenance of some village schools will need to be supported by well-wishers as the country is big and the villagers are relatively poor. Some village schools need money to buy tables and chairs or maintain the leaking roofs.

Singapore students and teachers who are kind enough and want to make a small difference to help their Myanmar counterparts, by donating pencils or exercise books or other things, please let me know at judy@designtravelpl.com or tel +65 9668-6468. Those who wish to visit the schools as part of the school visit and Bay Of Bengal Resort Tour Package, please let me know too.
